    Program Descriptions:

    Buzzy Bees (Kindergarten)

Students investigate the fascinating world of insects as they look at the external body parts of bees and discover some of their amazing adaptations. The class concludes with the students making a take-home buzzing bee toy.

    Owls Are a Hoot! (Grades 1 & 4)

Students will explore the nocturnal owl, including a close-up look at their feathers and feet. Other activities include taking apart owl pellets and identifying bones to learn what owls eat.

    Fossils (Grades 2 & 3)

Understand how changes in the environment caused some living things to become extinct. Make a replica of a fossil, sort fossilized sharks’ teeth, and discover which animals may have lived in your own backyard long, long ago during this interactive lesson on California’s past.

    Pig Heart Dissection (Grades 5 - 8)

Conduct a heart dissection guided by trained Science Center staff. Students will compare the pig heart to the human heart while mapping the chambers of the heart and tracing the blood’s pathway through the circulatory system. This program is $12.00 per student.

    Cow Eye Dissection (Grades 3, 5 - 8)

Perform an eye dissection guided by trained Science Center staff. Students will compare the cow eye to the human eye while examining the parts of the eye and their functions. This program is $12.00 per student.

    Planetarium Starlab (Grades 1 - 8)

Starlab, our portable planetarium, is designed to surround your students with the universe. Science, literature, and history are integrated into this daytime study of nighttime stars. Starlab can be set up in any 18’ X 25’ room with a 12-foot ceiling.

    Science Rocks! (2nd Grade)

Investigate the physical properties of rocks, along with a study of erosion and weathering. An explanation of the rock cycle includes making a rock board and comparing soil samples.

Search for Life in the Universe

Watch a 3-D multi-media presentation that focuses on the Search for Life in the Universe. This unique program discusses current research and NASA missions designed to discover if we are not alone in the universe (or even our solar system!) Call Dr. Neil Campbell for more information at 714-536-3258 or send him an e-mail.

    Weather (5th Grade)

Students study ocean currents, atmosphere, and how air pressure and temperature affect the weather.

    Forces and Motion (2nd Grade)

Students will use ramps, balls, measuring tapes, and a variety of materials with which to experiment. The concepts of forces, motion, inertia, and gravity are taught during this hands-on lesson.

    Electrical Circuits (Grades 3 - 5)

Create a simple circuit. Design and build other circuits using components such as wires, batteries, bulbs, and speakers.

    Magnetism (4th Grade)

Students learn about temporary and permanent of magnets and how they are used. Observe magnetic attraction and repulsion in motors. Students make their own electro-magnet!

    Electric Motors (4th Grade)

Students make the connection between electricity and magnetism as they explore electromagnetic fields and build their own electric motor to take home.

    Glowing, Growing Polymers - NEW (Grades 5 & 8)

Students investigate the interesting, but slimy side of polymers by “growing” water-absorbing molecules, making “glowing” slime, and more.
