Field Trips to the Science CenterExplore hands-on science exhibits while completing an Activity Booklet to share back at school. Observe the underground dynamics of a geyser; collect information about the digestive, circulatory and excretory systems in Dino Quest. Then participate in a educational demonstration focusing on "Tour Through the Digestive System.” Standards: [PS-1i – pg. 14; LS-2b, c, d; ES-3b, c – p. 15; ES-4d, 5c – pg. 16]
February is 5th Grade Month! Digestive Systems and Pathways Students will have the opportunity to use the DinoQuest transmitters themselves as they investigate the world of dinos, including their body systems, as seen in the giant Argentinosaurus. Standards: [LS 2a,b,c,d] More About Making the Grade >>
About Field Trips: - One adult per ten students is required
- Includes grade-specific activities
- Live science demonstration
- Free "come again" passes for students
- Must reserve field trips in advance

“Science to Go” - Programs at Your School
Science to Go programs are held at your school and taught by Discovery Science Center staff. They are 50 minutes in length and align with California Science Content Standards.
Planetarium Starlab & the Solar SystemStarlab, our portable planetarium, is designed to surround your students with the universe. Science, literature, and history are integrated into this daytime study of nighttime stars. Starlab can be set up in any 18’ X 25’ room with a 12-foot ceiling. [ES 5a, b, c - pg 16]
Electrical Circuits Create a simple circuit. Design and build other circuits using components such as wires, batteries, bulbs, and speakers.
Chemistry of Polymers Increase your understanding of polymers by dissecting a disposable diaper, making latex balls, and concocting slime. Standards: [PS-1 a, b, f - pg.14] | Weather Students study ocean currents, atmosphere, and how air pressure and temperature affect the weather. Standards: [ES-3a, b, c; 4a,b, c, d – pgs. 15-16] Pig Heart Dissection
Conduct a heart dissection guided by trained Science Center staff. Students will compare the pig heart to the human heart while mapping the chambers of the heart and tracing the blood’s pathway through the circulatory system. ($10 per student - includes one heart per four students) Standards: [LS 2a,b – pg 15]
Cow Eye Dissection Perform an eye dissection guided by trained Science Center staff. Students will compare the cow eye to the human eye while examining the parts of the eye and their functions. (Includes one eye per two students) |

Assemblies at Your School Assemblies are 50 minutes in length and can be adapted to any age audience. We have identified the California Science Content Standards for specific age groups.
Motion Commotion Experience the awesome power of physics as we explore forces and energy. Overcome gravity using air pressure, see your voice , brave the pendulum wrecking ball and much more. This action-packed assembly is sure to blow you away!
Super Cool By far the “coolest” program we offer is this demonstration focusing on the three states of matter: gas, liquid, and solid. A series of experiments will feature liquid nitrogen, with a boiling point of -319 degrees Fahrenheit (-196o C)! Standards: [PS-1b, g - pg 14] | Reaction Lab Uncover the mysteries of chemical reactions as students participate in some amazing demonstrations that are sure to kep them on the edge of their seats. Color-changing chemicals, extreme temperatures and glowing concoctions are a few of the many chemical reactions we will explore. Standards: [PS-1a - pg 14] |
