All Science To Go Programs:

Buzzy Bees

Students investigate the fascinating world of insects as they look at the external body parts of bees and discover some of their amazing adaptations. The class concludes with the students making a take-home buzzing bee toy. (Grades: K)

Owls are a Hoot

Students will explore the nocturnal owl, including a close-up look at their feathers and feet. Other activities include taking apart owl pellets and identifying bones to learn what owls eat. (Grades: 1, 4)

Fossils

Why do changes in the environment cause some living things to become extinct? Students will make a replica of a fossil, sort fossilized shark teeth and discover which animals may have lived in their own backyard long, long ago during this interactive lesson on California’s past. (Grades: 2, 3)

Pig Heart Dissection

Students conduct a heart dissection guided by trained Science Center staff. They will compare the pig heart to the human heart while mapping the chambers of the heart and tracing the blood’s pathway through the circulatory system. This program is $12.00 per student. (Grades: 5-8)

Cow Eye Dissection

Students perform a cow eye dissection guided by trained Science Center staff. They will compare the cow eye to the human eye while examining its parts and functions. This program is $12.00 per student. (Grades: 3, 6-8)

Planetarium Starlab

Starlab, our portable planetarium, is designed to submerse your students in the universe. Science, literature, and history are integrated into this daytime study of nighttime stars. Starlab can be set up in any 18’ X 25’ room with a minimum 12-foot ceiling. (Grades: 1-8)

Science Rocks

This activity allows students to investigate the physical properties of rocks, erosion and weathering. The students’ exploration of the rock cycle includes making a rock board and comparing soil samples. (Grades: 2)

Weather

Students will explore ocean currents, the atmosphere and how air pressure and temperature affect the weather. (Grades: 5)

Forces and Motion

Students will use ramps, balls, measuring tapes, and a variety of materials to experiment with the concepts of forces, motion, inertia and gravity in this hands-on lesson. (Grades: 2)

Electrical Circuits

In this activity, students will create a simple circuit and learn to design and build other circuits using components such as wires, batteries, bulbs, and speakers. (Grades: 3, 4)

Magnetism

This activity teaches students about temporary and permanent magnets and how they are used. They will observe magnetic attraction and repulsion in motors and use this lesson to make their own electro-magnet! (Grades: 4)

Electric Motors

Students will make the connection between electricity and magnetism as they explore electromagnetic fields and build their own electric motor to take home. (Grades: 4)

Glowing, Growing Polymers

This hands-on activity allows students investigate the interesting, but slimy side of polymers by “growing” water-absorbing molecules, making “glowing” slime and more. (Grades: 5, 8)
