Are you a hotshot with a hula hoop? Fascinated by hooping stunts and tricks? Visit on January 16th to join or watch our hula hoop competition! The event is included with Science Center admission and all you need are your hula hips to participate. Schedule of Events • Hula Hoop Competition 11:30am - 3:00pm • Hula Hoop Tips and Tricks 3:00pm - 3:30pm • Awards Presentation 4pm

Can you hula hoop with the best of em'?

Online pre-registration is now closed. Participation will be first come, first serve on the day of the competition based on availability.

The competition will determine the Discovery Science Center record for the “Longest Hula Hooper”. The competition will consist of heat rounds and hula hoopers with the first, second, and third longest hooping times will be awarded at the end of the day.


Are your hooping hips retired?
You don't need to spin a hula hoop to join in the fun. Come out to watch our competition in the morning and check out hula hoop tips and tricks in the afternoon!

Official Contest Rules

1. All participants must register to participate and receive a Competition Slip.Competition will be held from 11:30am – 3:00pm.
2. Participants are not allowed to register past 2pm, and must be in queue by 2:30pm.
3. Participants should line up in queue line and wait for an assigned station.
4. Participants will have one (1) minute to “practice,” after the practice period, each Participant will begin their competition time.
5. Participants must start hula hoop at the torso (and can use legs) for timed competition. Hula Hoops cannot begin around the neck or arms for timed competition.
6. Participants will be timed until their Hula Hoop hits the ground.
7. Participants will be read their time by the Station Volunteer, and will sign off on their time and turn their slip into the Check Out Table.
8. All Participants will receive a certificate of participation.
9. Award Presentation at 4pm (winner does not need to be present) at the Sun stage for Best Time. 1st Place, 2nd Place, 3rd Place and Under 5 years Category prizes will be awarded.
