Quake Zone Header

What causes earthquakes? An earthquake causes energy to travel through the Earth in seismic waves. The waves are caused by shifts in the Earth's crust (upper layer) and sometimes volcanoes.  California is affected by many earthquakes, so it's easy to see why we designated a special place to learn about them.
