Free Event at The Boeing Company
Join us for a free family event at The Boeing Company this May! Our annual Rocket Launch is full of engaging, hands-on activities highlighted by designing, building, and launching your own rocket made from a 2-liter plastic soda bottle.
Build your rocket at home, or use our supplies to construct a rocket with the help of real engineers. The competition will consist of creating and launching a bottle water rocket (yes, you may get wet!) and the payload with the longest “hang time” in the air wins! The grand prize winner will receive an opportunity to watch an actual rocket launch courtesy of The Boeing Company and United Launch Alliance.
We have also invited a real astronaut for meet and greet opportunities and to join in the fun. Be sure to bring your lawn chairs and watch as rockets launch throughout the day and enjoy lunch available from several of OC’s top food trucks.

Frequently Asked Questions
What time do I need to be there?
You can arrive whenever you like, there will be continuous building and launching of rockets until 1:30pm.
There are three flights listed, what is a flight?
A flight designates a time slot for launches to take place and allows us to award more prizes for winners. In other words, all launches that have taken place between 9am and 10:20am are eligible for the first flight award. You can participate in as few or as many flights as you like. The only consideration will be time required to build a rocket and get through the launch line.
What should I bring?
If you are planning on participating in the launch, you will need to bring a 2 liter soda bottle. We will provide materials for fins, parachutes, etc. You may bring other items you might need to construct your rocket. See Rules and Regulations. You will also be outside so please prepare accordingly, this may involve bringing a blanket or chair, sunscreen, etc.
How do I register for the event?
Registration will open in early April. You will receive an email with a link to a form that you will need to fill out and bring with you to the event. This will help speed up registration at the event.
Who can participate?
The event is open to anyone. There are three grade categories for awards. K – 6th grade, 7th - 12th grade, and Adult. Any children younger than kindergarten will enter with a parent under the Adult category.
Can I make my rocket before I attend the event?
Of course! That will provide more time for launching. Please be sure to review the Rules and Regulations.
What about prizes?
Each flight will have three winners, one winner per category; K-6, 7-12, and Adult. The grand prize will be awarded to the Rocket that is in the air the longest.
