Weather

FSEA members will learn about the relationship between the Sun and various weather phenomena. Through hands-on activities they will acquire an understanding of the science of meteorology. Finally, they will participate in a series of challenging yet fun activities that use good weather components for creativity and recreation.

Each unit includes supplies necessary for 20 students to complete 10 one-hour hands-on sessions, instructional DVDs, activity sheets, lesson plans, and program completion certificates. (Note: the pictures do not show the program in its entirety.)

  • Week 1: What is the water cycle? Your team is going to find out first hand by recreating it in this unique experiment.

  • Week 2-3: More fun hands-on experiments. Not only are you going to create a cloud in a bottle, but you are also going to build your own barometer so you can see how changes in weather can be predicted based on changes in pressure.

  • Week 4-7: Over these few weeks, you are going to build your very own weather station complete with weather vain, anemometer and rain gauge to help you become your own weather predictor.

  • Week 7-10: Now it’s time to get some real hands-on experience with some really cool activities. You’ll be building, testing and competing with kites, balsa gliders and even have an opportunity to invent your own customized paper glider. By the way, you may not even recognize it as a glider when it’s done, but watch it fly.
