In May 2003, the original "photovoltaic" (or "solar") panels were replaced by new, more efficient panels on the Cube's southwest side to give the Science Center an even bigger percentage of electicity. BP Solar manufactured the new cutting edge, state-of-the-art solar panels, and New Vision Technologies of San Clemente installed the panels on the Cube. Thanks to both companies for their generous donations!
Cladding the Cube
A total of 395 perforated metal panels from Woodbridge Glass of Irvine now cover four of the sides of the cube. The finishing touches on the Cube involved the addition of 12 strands of Lumenyte fiber optics around each of the Cube's edges to set the Cube aglow. Now, the Cube provides a colorful spectacular nighttime view for miles around Orange County.
A Special Thank You
Much of the funding and support for this project was donated by New Vision Technologies and BP Solar. |
