April 30, 2010:
The Innovators take On Angels Baseball. The Innovators went to Angel Stadium to hear special guest speaker – and host – Dennis Kuhl, Chairman of Angels Baseball. At this exclusive lunch, held at the stadium’s fabulous Diamond Club with a spectacular view of the field, Kuhl shared his insight on the spirit of baseball, the Angels Baseball enterprise, and plans for the 2010 All Star Game. After lunch, The Innovators checked out all of the behind-the-scenes fun with the Angels’ former star pitcher, Clyde Wright! Clyde had many great stories and legends to tell, and led The Innovators on an all-star tour of Angel Stadium. Discovery Science Center is thrilled to be able to offer great programming such as this as a special benefit to joining The Innovators.
March 24, 2010:
Hosted at the stunning Laguna Beach home of founding Innovator members Marta and Raj Bhathal, the program featured a special presentation by guest speaker Dr. Gal Luft, a leading expert on energy independence and author of Turning Oil into Salt: Energy Independence through Fuel Choice. Dr. Luft is executive director of the Institute for the Analysis of Global Security (IAGS), a Washington based think tank focused on energy security and co-founder of the Set America Free Coalition, an alliance of national security, environmental, labor and religious groups promoting ways to reduce America's dependence on foreign oil. Newsweek Magazine called Dr. Luft a "tireless and independent advocate of energy security," the business magazine Poder called him "one of the most recognizable figures in modern energy and security issues," and Esquire Magazine included him in its 2007 list of America's Best and Brightest. Guests enjoyed good laughs, good food, and all around good times with old and new friends, and also received copies of Dr. Luft’s newly-released book Turning Oil into Salt: Energy Independence through Fuel Choice. Many business and community leaders were in attendance at the event. Catering was provided by Turnip Rose Elite Catering, who presented a dazzling display of food and drink for all to enjoy.
January 21, 2010:
“An Evening with Michael Ramirez” Glasses chimed and guests mingled as Discovery Science Center’s The Innovators held their first event of the new year. Hosted at the beautiful Corona del Mar home of founding Innovator members Lydia and Ken Himes, the program featured a special presentation by guest speaker Michael Ramirez, two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist and senior editor for Investor’s Business Daily. Michael Ramirez has been making headlines and stirring up controversy since 1983 by creating funny, provocative and thoughtful political commentary for Los Angeles Times and USA Today, and is syndicated in over 450 newspapers and magazines throughout the world. Guests enjoyed good laughs, good food, and all around good times with old and new friends, and also received signed copies of Ramirez’ newly-released book entitled “Everyone Has the Right to My Opinion” – a compilation of some of his most celebrated cartoons. We thank The Innovators for being ambassadors to champion the mission of Discovery Science Center to help us educate young minds to INNOVATE! November 12, 2009:The Innovators enjoyed fashion, friends, music and science – all for the benefit of science education. GARYS in Newport Beach, which offers some of the finest men’s wear in Orange County, provided an enjoyable and unique backdrop for this fun-filled event. A portion of sales benefited DSC’s Education Fund, which directly supports important resources such as field trip scholarships, bus scholarships, outreach into the schools and exhibits for hundreds of thousands of children each year. In addition, guests learned how science and technology have advanced the clothing industry from a special guest speaker on the “Science of Fashion”!
June 17, 2009: Innovators Kick-Off Celebration
The Innovators celebrated their official kickoff with members and new friends gathering at Discovery Science Center for a special viewing of the Center’s hands-on exhibits. Featuring guest speaker Julie Townsend, Aerospace Engineer and Mars Rover Driver at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the event was great fun, and all in support of educating young minds in our community.
