Orange County’s Leading Destination for Hands-On Science Fun!

SANTA ANA, Calif. – October 2006– Visitors can let their imagination turn, twist and fly through approximately 100 hands-on exhibits at Taco Bell Discovery Science Center, Orange County’s leading destination for hands-on science fun. To add to the experience, guests can experience live science demonstrations, group challenges, interactive quests and science programs designed by grade level. Visitors will also enjoy annual events including BubbleFest in April and Spooky Science in October. Dino Quest, an exhibit including life-size dinosaurs, an online Dinosaur game and an Argentinosaurus guests can walk through opened in June 2006.
Inside Discovery Science Center, guests will encounter themed areas including Discovery Stadium, Techno Arts, Air & Space, Perception, Dynamic Earth, Quake Zone, and KidStation (an area specifically for kids ages 2 to 5). Visitors can challenge friends to Virtual Volleyball, make a 19-foot long tidal wave in the Wave Tank, lie on the Bed of Nails, climb the Rock Wall, walk through a Tornado, dance on a Musical Floor and more!
Discovery Science Center also offers grade-specific programs including the new “Making the Grade” science months, a program that helps students, based on their grade level, achieve the level of understanding in science recommended by the State of California science content standards. More than 300,000 school children have visited on field trips with their teachers, and the center also offers after-school programs featuring topics such as astronomy, electricity and forensics. In addition, teachers can participate in professional development workshops and computer training. Other educational programs offered include Midnight Madness Camp-Ins for scout groups and Camp Discovery summer camps.
Facility rental of Discovery Science Center is available for company parties, proms, meetings, receptions, and other special events beginning at 6 p.m. every day. The building can accommodate up to 1000 people reception style.
Part of Discovery Science Center’s unique architecture and most notable features is a 108-foot tilting Cube that sits perched on end overlooking Interstate 5. Attached to The Cube are 560 photovoltaic (PV) panels that convert sunlight into electricity, which is used to help provide power to the science center. The Cube is lit nightly with brilliant colored fiber optics for a spectacular nighttime view.
Conveniently located next to Interstate 5 on Main Street in Santa Ana between Bowers Museum and Westfield Shoppingtown MainPlace, Discovery Science Center is minutes from The Disneyland Resort, Edison International Field, Knott’s Berry Farm and many other popular Orange County attractions. Discovery Science Center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. except Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Regular admission is $12.95 for adults, $9.95 for youths (ages 3-17) and $11.95 Seniors (62+). Discovery Science Center Members and children two and under are admitted free.
