Julee Brooks Brings Extensive Experience in Children’s Museums, Educational Programs and Vast Knowledge of Fundraising Landscape in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, Calif., (August 15, 2017) – Discovery Science Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring and educating millions of young minds through engaging science-based programs, named Julee Brooks as its new Executive Director and Vice President of L.A. Affairs at the Discovery Cube campus in Los Angeles. Alongside the rest of the executive team, Brooks will share the responsibility of improving and maintaining Discovery Cube’s ability to be the most comprehensive destination for science-based learning and hands-on discovery in the country.
“We’re excited about the experience Julee brings to the table as we continue to grow our audience and educate young minds in the community through the foundation of our core initiatives,” said Joe Adams, CEO of Discovery Science Foundation. “The success of Discovery Cube relies on our team of passionate and qualified individuals that are committed to shaping young minds to help better the world around all of us. We strongly believe that Julee is the perfect addition to our team.”
Brooks has spent her career in the field of Informal Children’s Education and Services. Most recently she served as the Executive Director of Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House, and prior to that she was the Museum Director for the Zimmer Children’s Museum.
Throughout her career, Brooks has led all facets of mission-driven organizations, including educational program delivery, development, external relations, strategic partnerships, fundraising and board relations. Brooks also has experience in national museum advocacy organizations such as the Association of Children’s Museums.
Due to her time at the Zimmer Children’s Museum, Brooks has an understanding of how to grow audiences and support for museums that serve families, as well as a comprehensive understanding of the strategic partnerships and community listening needed to succeed in this space. She also brings an acute awareness of the Los Angeles fundraising landscape. Her combined experience in generating operational and development driven revenues will prove valuable to Discovery Cube’s efforts to create a sustainable base in Los Angeles.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to be a part of the pivotal growth phase of an institution that is really building a legacy in the city. It is my privilege to join the Discovery Cube family and help build out a civic institution in an area of Los Angeles that is hungry for such amenities,” said Brooks.
Brooks will replace former Executive Director Kafi Blumenfield, who will remain a dynamic part of the Discovery Cube team as she lends her expertise in her new role on the Discovery Cube Los Angeles Board of Directors. Her contributions to Discovery Cube have been instrumental in development and growth, and her dedication to the Cube will continue in her transition.
