Summer Just Got A Whole Lot Cooler!
The new 44,000 square-foot expansion and remodel is set to open on June 11 with an exciting line-up of permanent exhibits, cool science shows, and The International Exhibit of Sherlock Holmes. Featured exhibits include:
Mission Control – Have you ever wanted to land a rover on Mars, send a satellite up to space, or dock at the International Space Station? In Mission Control, you are in charge of the selected mission and it’s your job to successfully complete each one.
Inventor’s Workshop – Put on a lab coat, throw on some goggles, and put engineering to action! This exhibit features a materials exploration area where guests are encouraged to design, build, and test in a variety of topics. Learn about magnetism, electricity and the color spectrum, while working together with other guests.
Helicopter Tour – Soar over Orange County in a virtual helicopter and learn about the flora and fauna that makes up the Irvine Ranch. Stretching from the mountains to the ocean, the 50,000 acres of the Irvine Ranch is permanently protected wild lands and parks with unique plant life, endangered species, fun hiking trails, and much more.
Inspector Training Course – This immersive backyard experience has guests learning how to better protect their homes from vectors (mosquitos, rodents, flies and ants) and vector-borne diseases through a digital scavenger hunt. Will you protect your house and earn the Inspector’s Badge?
Petersonville Healthy Kitchen – This full, working test kitchen puts you in the action and behind the counter learning how to modify and create real recipes that have a healthy twist to them! Also, lessons on kitchen safety are provided to participants to ensure a safe and happy home.
Julianne Argyros Showcase Theater & Exhibition Hall – This 10,000 square-foot flexible space is a first-of-its-kind in the museum world with the ability to transform from a world-class exhibition hall to a 500-seat theater. The first exhibit to be on display is The International Exhibit of Sherlock Holmes – a “who done it” mystery for guest of all ages!
Eat Well. Play Well. Sleep Well. – Opening in the fall of 2015, this area is designed for guests 5 and under, and will focus on the three aspects of keeping kids healthy. If children eat, play and sleep well, then they are more likely to “think well.” This area will also provide parents with ideas for bedtime stories, play time, and healthy snacks.
Water Gallery – A full gallery is dedicated to one of life’s most precious resources: water. Hands-on exhibits and activities will give you a scientific look at water’s effect on planet earth and its billions of inhabitants.
