Experience It. Learn It. Never Forget It.
When school ends, the science adventure begins as we travel beyond the classroom to explore during week-long, immersive, hands-on day camps. Scientists ages 5-10 will find themselves engaged in experiments, science challenges and outdoor activities that make them laugh, think and discover new concepts.
Science Camps at the Santa Ana Zoo
The Zoo and You
Is your child an animal lover? Do you have a future zoologist in the family? Discovery Cube’s “The Zoo and You” camp at the Santa Ana Zoo provides curious kids the chance to learn hands-on with animal experts! Each day of the camp will be themed around a popular children’s book, including Click, Clack, Moo, Cows That Type, “Slowly, Slowly, Slowly,” said the Sloth, and Are You a Bee? Each book will connect to a hands-on activity such as making butter, investigating eggs, and learning about body coverings, such as fur, feathers, scales, and quills. Campers will also get up close and personal with an armadillo, pancake tortoise, and macaw during the camp animal shows. Plus, they will get to tour the Zoo, play monkey bingo, and make an edible bird nest. All activities are held in the safety of the Santa Ana Zoo’s barnyard classroom and outdoor amphitheater.
“Zoo Camp” is an action-packed adventure exploring animals and their amazing characteristics! Kids will get to explore zoo careers, including what a veterinarian, zookeeper and zoo architect do on a daily basis. They will learn the difference between cold-blooded and warm-blooded animals as they use real stethoscopes to listen to their own heartbeat and the heartbeats of a snake and rabbit! Campers will test their own balance, strength and hand-eye coordination skills in an investigation of animal design and movement. The Cube’s “Zoo Camp” concludes with the building of a model animal enclosure and interacting with a live snake, iguana and armadillo! All activities are conducted in the safety of the Santa Ana Zoo’s barnyard classroom and outdoor amphitheater.

Science Camps at the San Joaquin Marsh
If your child is too adventurous to stay indoors all summer, let them take a walk on the wild side of science at Discovery Cube’s “Summer Smiles” Camp at the San Joaquin Marsh! In this exciting camp, kids will investigate the world of frogs, bats, butterflies, and crabs. They will use magnifiers to get an up-close look at butterfly wings, concoct ooey, gooey slime, make a bat box, and grind their own colorful sand. Your young explorer will enjoy learning the purpose of the Marsh’s natural filtration ponds during nature hikes in one of Orange County’s most scenic settings! All activities are conducted in the safety of the Marsh’s “Discovery” classroom.
Do you have a hands-on builder or future engineer at home looking for some fun this summer? If your child enjoys tinkering, creating and is curious about how things work, “Project Discovery” Camp at the San Joaquin Marsh is a must! Campers will enjoy a series of challenge-based activities, such as testing different models of flight, dropping an egg without breaking it and constructing a catapult. They will get to test the creations they have designed in a fun and friendly camp-wide competition. Campers will also investigate the secrets of our Solar System and take a close look at the planet we live on, starting with a just one drop of water! All activities are conducted in the safety of the Marsh’s “Discovery” classroom.
