Discovery Science Center is seeking out delectable creativity from children, adults, businesses, and organizations. Try your hand at creating a delicious masterpiece out of gingerbread, icing, and other edibles in this year's gingerbread competition. If you like sweets, architecture, holidays, or just trying something new, this contest is for you!

2009-2010 Gingerbread Contest Dates:

  • Bring Your Entry to Discovery Science Center:  November 23 - 30, 2009; 11am - 4pm
    (Please note that we are CLOSED on Nov 26 - Thanksgiving Day)
  • Gingerbread Houses will be on Display:  November 23, 2009 - January 3, 2010
  • Judging: November 30th and December 1st
  • Winner Announcement: Wednesday, December 2nd at the Participants Awards Party

Official Rules and Regulations:

1. This contest is open to businesses, organizations and individuals. Your creation does not have to be a house. It can be a barn, church, castle or some other structure.

2. Fill out an entry form and return to Discovery Science Center (DSC) along with your creation by the specified category deadline.

3. Entries will be displayed at DSC from November 23, 2009, through January 3, 2010. DSC reserves the right not to exhibit all entries due to space limitations. If your entry is not displayed, it must be picked up within 48 hours of the time notice is given.

4. Attach a 3" x 5" card listing your name and address. Also, attach a list to the entry form of any edible items used that may be unusual or questionable.

5. Creations must be constructed mainly of gingerbread and icing. Please consider longevity when creating your structure. DSC will apply treatment to your structure once it goes on display, so it will no longer be edible after you turn it in.

6. The entire visual display must be made of edible materials with the exception of the surface it is mounted upon.

7. All entries must remain in Discovery Science Center for display from November 23, 2009 through January 3, 2010.

8. Discovery Science Center reserves the right to remove any entry which begins to look in disrepair.

9. All entries must be brought to Discovery Science Center on the specified deadline, between the hours of 12 noon and 2 pm.

10. Entries will be judged in the beginning of December. Winners will be notified by mail no later than December 30, 2009.

11. Entries will be judged on imagination, construction, decoration detail, use of gingerbread and color and adherence to guidelines.

12. All entries must be picked up Sunday, January 3, 2010, between noon and 2 pm or Monday, January 4 between 9 and 11 am. Discovery Science Center reserves the right to dispose of entries remaining after that date.

13. Discovery Science Center reserves the right to photograph entries for any promotional purposes. Photographs become the property of Discovery Science Center.
