Jasmine Forte: Helicopter Tours at Discovery Cube Los Angeles

Climb aboard and fasten your seat belts for a ride on the helicopter simulator at Discovery Cube Los Angeles!

DCLA32

Get ready to soar over California as we follow our water system. Our tour begins in Los Angeles and will take us all the way to Mt. Whitney where snow is a reservoir of fresh water. The water then travels down through creeks and streams into Grand Lake

From here, The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power collects some of the water into pipes then diverts the water over 300 miles away into Los Angeles.

DCLA36

This exhibit is a hit with both children and adults. As the helicopter takes flight, passengers are sure to enjoy the thrill of the journey from start to finish. Rest assured you are in safe hands with the DCLA Helicopter Tours Crew!

Grab a cart and get shopping at the Discovery Market in Discovery Cube Los Angeles!

dcla50

The Discovery Market is a fun grocery store game where you’re the shopper and your grocery list is the challenge. Grab your shopping cart and aim your scanner as you race down the aisles of the Discovery Market.

Once you’ve selected your challenge, your shopping list will guide you through the market. Choose your items wisely and you will be rewarded.

dcla42

When you complete your challenge and successfully select every item on your shopping list, you’ll head over to the checkout area. Your score will be calculated and if you made healthy, Earth-friendly choices, your reward is an awesome photo of yourself up on the Super Shoppers Wall of Fame!

The Discovery Market is one of our most favorite exhibits at Discovery Cube LA. My kids always have a blast completing their challenge. This exhibit is both educational and fun and as a parent that is a definite plus. Getting their picture up for everyone in the museum to see isn’t too shabby either!

A Summer full of adventure awaits you at Discovery Cube Los Angeles!
Two amazing new exhibits launched at Dicovery Cube LA on May 28th. Nickelodeon’s Dora & Diego: Let’s Explore! and SPEED: Science in Motion.
DCLA25
Dora & Diego: Let’s Explore! is located downstairs next to Bean Sprouts and it is one of the most interactive and exciting exhibits the museum has to offer. With so many bright colors and familiar characters, this educational play area is going to be your child’s favorite place to explore.

There is so much for kids to do in this exhibit. We literally spent a couple hours just running from one area to the other then back to the first area again!

Here are all of the interactive worlds within the exhibit:
The Purple Planet
Visit the Purple Planet with Dora and Boots! A Purple Planet home invites young visitors to climb inside and slide down on the surface of the Purple Planet.
Rocket Ship
Dora’s outer-space friends want to go back to the Purple Planet and need help getting there. Aboard the Rocket Ship, preschoolers are invited to put on a spacesuit, pilot the ship, and test their memory with images of colorful planets as they help Dora and Boots take their outer-space friends home.
Constellations
On the way to the Purple Planet, Dora and Boots encounter some interesting star groupings. Children and their families are invited to help identify the patterns made out of stars by inserting star shapes to light up a constellation.
Isa’s Flowery Garden
Dora’s friend Isa the Iguana demonstrates how to take care of flowers, plants, and animals. Preschool visitors can tour Isa’s Garden to pick flowers, interact with bird, butterfly, and insect puppets, and pretend-fly with toddler-sized bird and butterfly wings. Even the littlest visitors will enjoy smelling the flowery scents and picking soft-fabric posies.
Tico’s Tree and Car
Dora is a good friend to Tico the squirrel and visitors are invited to be a good friend to Tico too. Tico needs help picking nuts from the tree for a family picnic. Children can play along with Swiper to swipe the nuts and watch as they shoot up and over to fill Tico’s basket. Visitors can also help Tico fill up his car with nuts so he can begin his journey!
Pirate Ship
In the Pirate Ship, preschoolers can join the Pirate Piggies crew and dress like a pirate to pretend-play along sailing the ship and divvying up the treasure. Visitors can raise and lower the Pirate Piggies’ flag, look through the telescopes to spot the treasure chest and then divvy up the coins into the Pirate Piggies’ banks and help them share the treasure.
Animal Rescue Center
Young children practice caring and helping rainforest animals in Diego’s Animal Rescue Center. Preschoolers can be an animal rescuer, like Diego, as they diagnose and address an animal’s problem from the “Scanner” bed, bandage and apply cold packs at the “First-Aid Station,” and bathe stuffed animals at the “Care Station.”
Rainforest Maze
Preschoolers will explore a rainforest to locate rainforest animals. Active play is encouraged as children swing across the Bobo Brothers’ monkey bars, crawl through a fallen tree, climb across Jaguar Mountain, and jump or hop across the River Rocks.

Once we pulled the kids away from this exhibit, we went upstairs to experience Speed: Science in Motion! The sound of cheering literally filled the air when we walked into this hands-on, action-packed exhibit!
DCLA13
DCLA12
Speed takes thrill seekers right to a Formula 1 race track, complete with pit lane, workshop and physical testing environments.
The Workshop –Explore the science behind Formula One cars and learn about the engines, aerodynamics, and motion.
The Fitness Testing Area – Drivers can test their skill levels using anticipation, reaction time, peripheral vision and heart rate exhibits to see if they have what it takes to become a professional Formula One driver.
The Race Track – Trainee drivers can test their driving skills in a race simulator, change a tire under Formula One conditions, or compete against another driver in a virtual race.
My boys immediately rushed to the virtual race track and challenged each other for the title of CHAMP! The girls loved the race simulator and wouldn’t even give me turn. I think I called “NEXT” three times before giving up!

The workshop was just as exciting! We learned how to change a tire under pressure in a fact-paced environment. We also learned about the gears and how they change during a race as well as velocity vs. distance.

This exhibit was a hit with our kids as well as my niece and sister in law. We can’t wait to come back all Summer long. Hopefully, next time I will actually get a turn at the race simulator!
Be sure to visit Discovery Cube Los Angeles this Summer and experience these great exhibits. You can explore with Dora & Diego until September 18, 2016 and Speed’s final lap will be on September 11, 2016.

Jasmine Forte: Beat the Heat at Discovery Cube Los Angeles and Hansen Dam!

IMG_2730

With the Summer slowly coming to an end and my kids getting ready to return to school, we decided to spend an entire day exploring Discovery Cube LA and the neighboring Hansen Dam activities.

First up, all of the amazing exhibits at Discovery Cube LA! As soon as we arrived the kids ran straight for the Santa Ana Winds exhibit to cool off while enduring winds clocked in at over 70 mph.

IMG_2769

Now, that they were successfully cooled off, it was time to challenge each other in the Discovery Market and earn the title of Super Shopper! They always have so much fun in the Discovery Market. Grab a shopping cart and select the type of challenge you want to take on. Then you’re off to shop with a digital shopping list that is also a fun and educational game.

Parker can’t get enough of the Animal Grossology exhibit located upstairs and since it’s only here in LA until September 7th, we just had to revisit his favorite area of the museum. The Grossology Zoo is loaded with fun little factoids and a interactive penguin that likes to discuss dookie.

It was time to take our party outside and cool off in the water at the Hansen Dam Aquatics Center. The kids couldn’t wait! We have heard so many great things about the swimming lake from our friends and we were so excited to finally check it out for ourselves.

The Hansen Dam Aquatic Center offers a huge 1.5 acre swimming lake with 50 public restrooms, 20 dressing rooms, 25 showers and several picnic areas. That’s not all! The swimming lake also has 2 awesome water slides for families to enjoy. Don’t forget to bring your beach toys because the entire swimming lake is surrounded by sand.

Jasmine Forte: Discovery Cube LA: A Summer of Discovery at The Discovery Cube LA!

The Discovery Cube LA has an exciting Summer in store for visitors starting right now! I took my kids to visit the Discovery Cube LA for the first time and I have to admit, I was just as excited to get my hands on the exhibits as my kids were.

DCLA13
DCLA14

First up on our visit was the Animal Grossology exhibit. This exhibit will run until September 7th, 2015and is just oozing with disgusting science and interactive learning games. My kids absolutely loved this Barf-tastic exhibit! The kids got to meet Malcolm, the Animal Grossology mascot, they participated in a live show on the Discovery Stage, climbed aboard a submarine and much, much more!

DCLA01

Parker was most excited to jump into the Adventures with Clifford the Big Red Dog exhibit located downstairs next to the Bean Sprouts Café and gift shop. This exhibit is also here for the Summer months and will run until September 7th, 2015. It looked just like the books I used to read to him when he was younger. Complete with Clifford, his dog house, a boat to sail, cooking, watering the flowers, a musical area and so much more. I couldn’t get him out of here to keep exploring!

DCLA02

Next up was the awesome LA Kings Science of Hockey exhibit. This entire exhibit was hands on and filled with interactive games for kids and adults. Jackson couldn’t wait to give hockey a try. He played goalie and took a turn shooting the puck at a virtual goalie.

DCLA03

We spent the rest of the day trying to explore the entire museum. We took a ride on a helicopter, we journeyed under water, went rock climbing, tested our strength, inspected a house and practiced recycling.

DCLA04

One of their most favorite exhibits at the Discovery Cube LA was shopping at the Discovery Market! They couldn’t get enough of this place. Each shopping cart has a built-in game that leads our little shoppers on a healthy shopping spree.

“Grab your cart, aim your scanner and zoom through the aisles in this exciting grocery store game. Learn the importance of making healthy and Earth-friendly choices when you shop. Are you up for the challenge?”

Of course, I had to get in on all the fun! I challenged my kids to see who could complete their list and make it up on the Super Shoppers wall!

Be sure to visit the Discover Cube LA next week for a special Summer Event:
