CAMP DISCOVERY

Summer Camp at the Cube – Orange County:

Join us on-site at Discovery Cube Orange County for this summer’s Camp Discovery 2021.

Each of these full-day camps can be booked as a single day or a full week.  Creature Features and Dino Days of Summer are for campers entering Kindergarten through 2nd grades.  Space Camp and STEAM Camp are for campers entering 3rd through 5th grades.  All on-site camps will have limited capacity to ensure camper and counselor safety.

Please see the descriptions below or our FAQs to learn more.

Can a parent or sibling join a registered camper?

Unfortunately, parents, and siblings cannot join a camper for Camp Discovery. If a sibling wishes to join Camp Discovery, they must be registered.

Where will on-site Camp Discovery be taking place?

This summer Camp Discovery will be taking place in-person at our Orange County Campus only.

Is there a place where I can see camp descriptions?

Yes, here is where you can find on-site camp descriptions:  https://www.discoverycube.org/oc-camp-discovery/.

Does my child have to be a specific age to attend camp?

Yes, all campers must be entering one of the grades described for their particular camp.  For Summer Camp 2021, the grade level break-downs are:

Camp Name Entering Grades
Creature Features K-2
Dino Days of Summer K-2
Space Camp 3-5
STEAM Camp 3-5
Code Constructors 4-8

I registered for an on-site camp, now what?

Upon registration you will get an auto-generated confirmation email; you will not receive a ticket for camp.  After that you will be getting reminders for camp from our education team (all emails will be coming from an address @discoverycube.org) that will outline drop-off and pick-up procedures, pick-up authorization forms, and any needed information.  Before camp you will get a camp reminder.  Please make sure to check you spam or junk folder for these emails.

Will I need to provide any supplies for my camper?

No, for on-site camps all supplies will be provided by the Discovery Cube.

Does Camp Discovery provide lunch and/or snack?

Camp Discovery does not provide lunches or snacks to campers. All campers are expected to bring their lunch and two snacks for the day. For summer camp 2021, all lunches will take place outside (weather permitting).

Can my camper buy lunch or snack onsite?

Unfortunately, we do not allow campers to purchase food onsite during camp. This policy allows for both campers and counselors to not have to worry about carrying/holding money during the camp day.

What part of the day is spent outside?

The amount of time spent outside varies from camp to camp. There should always be an expectation that part of the day will be spent outside, weather permitting. Campers are encouraged to come to camp with sunscreen already applied. If there is a concern about too much sun exposure, feel free to send sunscreen that your camper can apply themselves. For summer camp 2021, all lunch breaks will take place outside (weather permitting).

How do you deal with allergies?

At drop-off, please inform the camp counselor about any allergies they should be aware of. Any necessary medication that your camper might need should be brought every day during camp. We cannot hold the medication overnight and your camper will bring it home every night. All campers will be expected to administer their own medication. If your child has a food allergy, we do not have designated allergen-free food areas. We do wash hands immediately after any snack break or lunch time.

What does the daily schedule look like?

Each on-site camp day will include time for hands-on activities, time to explore exhibits, two snack breaks, and a lunch break.

Do you provide extended care?

Unfortunately, this year we will not be providing any pre or post extended care. Please plan to pick up campers at 4:00 PM.

Who are the camp counselors?

All Camp Discovery counselors are part of Discovery Cube’s team of Educators. All counselors go through mandatory First Aid and CPR training, in addition to logistical and content training.

What is the camper: counselor ratio?

Due to COVID restrictions, our camp groups are kept small with the maximum number of campers per counselor set at 1 to 20.

Will social distancing be maintained during Camp Discovery?

Yes, per CDC guidelines, three-foot physical distancing guidelines will be maintained while in the camp room, exhibit floor, and at lunch.

What is the Discovery Cube’s mask policy?

Discovery Cube is following the mask guidelines from the State of California, the Center for Disease Control (CDC), and the Orange County Health Care Agency.  As these guidelines evolve, our mask requirements may evolve as well.  As of 6/7/21, all Discovery Cube employees and guests (including campers) must wear a facial covering at all times.  Campers may take masks off while eating lunch and snack outdoors.  Hand sanitizer is provided throughout the Discovery Cube campus and in camp rooms.

How will camper lunch be handled in light of COVID-19 guidelines?

Campers will have lunch outdoors, in an area off limits to other guests. Campers will maintain social distancing, and tables will be sanitized prior to campers sitting down, and afterwards. Campers will need to bring their own snacks, lunch, and drinks; a water bottle is also recommended.

How and where do I drop-off and pick-up my camper?

Drop-off and pick-up will take place at Discovery Cube Orange County’s exit ramp. Signs will help you lead you to the correct door. Prior to your camp, you will be asked to submit a list of pre-approved adults who are authorized to pick-up your camper at the end of the day. All adults must show photo ID and the name on their ID must match the name provided to Discovery Cube as an adult authorized for pick-up.

Am I able to receive a refund if I need to cancel?

Cancellation policy requires notification of cancellation 10 business days prior to the start date of your camp to receive a refund. A $10 booking fee will be deducted from all refunds. Failure to give the required notice of cancellation will result in no refund.

What if I need to change which camp my child is in?

Any changes to the camper’s enrollment must be completed 10 business days prior to the original start date. The first change will be made at no charge. Subsequent changes may be made but there will be a $10 rebooking charge for each additional change. All changes are subject to availability at the time of the request.
