What our Teen Volunteers are saying:

“One of my favorite parts of volunteering at the Cube has been the emphasis on working together.  Working in partners and together on group tasks has really helped me to value collaboration…”

– Ashley

“Discovery Cube is like a song on the radio- you’re unsure if you like it at first, but the more you experience it, the more you love it. After joining the Cube’s volunteer family, I made numerous new friends.  I also developed numerous skills that prepared me for the professional workplace as well as college.”

– Harrison

“…I have met so many other individuals in the volunteer program that have grown into some of my closest friends.  The volunteer program holds a familial aspect to it, and it has been so much fun working with my friends to promote Discovery Cube’s mission.”

– Katherine

“I became a Cube volunteer because I love science …my involvement in the volunteer program has made me a more outgoing and social person.  Constantly interacting with guests has made me not afraid to engage in conversation with someone I don’t know.”

– Rushika

Things to Consider

There are a few things you should know before you start the application process to join Discovery Cube’s volunteer family.

  • The application process includes completing an online application form, submitting a resume, a letter of recommendation and then participating in an interview.
  • Check our application dates and deadlines. Your complete application must be received before we can schedule your interview.
  • If you are 14, you may start the application process one month before your 15th birthday.
  • Our Volunteers are required to complete 60 hours of service before we will provide verification of volunteer service.
  • We ask our Teen Volunteers to complete at least one four-hour shift every 30 days.

We know that you may have many questions—we will be happy to answer them for you via email, phone, or during your interview.

Volunteer Application

Thanks for your interest in volunteering! To become a teen volunteer, please follow these 3 easy steps!

Step 1:  Complete our online application (which includes uploading your resume and letter of recommendation.)  Click here to access the application:  Teen Volunteer Application

To complete the application, you’ll need to upload a copy of your resume and a letter of recommendation (Word Document or PDF only).  Your letter of recommendation should come from an adult who knows you in a professional capacity, and isn’t a member of your family.  It can come from a teacher, coach, club sponsor, religious leader or mentor.  We don’t have a set requirement for the letter, but it should explain how the person knows you, and describe some of the qualities which would make you a good fit for our volunteer program.

We have a limited teen volunteer positions available and have established a maximum number that we’ll accept.  Once our maximum number of applications has been reached, the application window will close and we won’t accept any additional applications.  We don’t have a “deadline” to submit the application- instead, the window for acceptance will close once we’ve reached the maximum number of applications.  We discourage applicants from saving the application link to complete the application at a later time- you may find that we’ve already reached the maximum and won’t be able to accept your application.  If you find that our application is closed, please check back in December for our Winter 2027 application information.

Step 2. We would like to meet you! Once your online application is completed, we will reach out to you to schedule an interview.  For Fall 2026, interview dates are August 22, August 23, August 29 and August 30.

Step 3. This is it! During your interview, you will find out a little bit about our organization, what volunteers do, and what our expectations are. This is also a good time to ask any questions that you might have.

Please be prepared to tell us about:

  • Why you’re interested in volunteering at Discovery Cube Orange County!
  • Any other volunteer experience you have!
  • Your accomplishments- these can be academic, athletic, hobbies or anything else you’re proud of!
