What do volunteers do at Discovery Cube?

Our Volunteers serve in a whole host of positions at Discovery Cube. Volunteers will start with a rotation of positions that help support our staff and operations on our exhibit floor. Volunteers engage guests at our popular exhibits, help maintain the Cube at a “show ready” state, and answer questions. Other positions (which may require additional training) include teaching science activities, explaining science concepts at our exhibits, and performing “behind the scenes” duties.

When I become a volunteer, can I volunteer whenever I want?

Teen Volunteers sign-up for predetermined shifts. Shifts will vary in length, but they are generally 4 hours long. We ask that all volunteers show up on time and stay for the entire shift. Teen volunteers generally serve on weekends, during school breaks and during the summer.

Do I have to volunteer for a minimum number of hours?

Our volunteers serve at least 4 hours every 30 days. In addition, volunteers must complete at least 60 hours of service before we will sign “verification of hours” paperwork or write letters of recommendation.

Will I need to complete an interview?

Yes! An interview is an opportunity for us to meet you face to face, ask you a few questions, get to know you a little more, and is a chance for you to get to know us a bit better as well!

What are the requirements to volunteer?

Our minimum age requirement is fifteen years old. We are seeking volunteers who are a good fit for our organization, enjoy sharing their interest in STEM, like working with people, are willing to commit and dedicate time to us, and most importantly, will enjoy their time at Discovery Cube.

I am not 15 yet, but I want to apply.

We do not accept volunteers who under 15 years of age. However, you may start the application process 1 month before your 15th birthday.

Do volunteers receive any benefits?

Absolutely! Discovery Cube appreciates all the time and dedication volunteers give to us and we try to give back as best we can. Benefits for active volunteers who have completed 60 hours include: Free admission for the volunteer and one guest (as long as the volunteer is not on duty) Discount at our Launch Pad Science Store Complimentary tickets to the Cube!

I'm over 18 - will I need to complete a background check?

Adult volunteers who are accepted into our program are required to complete a Live Scan fingerprint background check. We’ll provide you with locations and details upon acceptance to the program.

Our volunteers wear a Cube-issued Volunteer uniform t-shirt with their own black pants and black or brown shoes.

If I have court-ordered hours or mandatory hours due to a criminal conviction, can I complete my hours at Discovery Cube?

We do not accept volunteers who need to serve community service through a court referral or diversion program.

Group Volunteer
